GATHERING OVER FOOD

We're forever inspired by the number of maker spaces popping up which offer everything from planting succulents, sewing cushions, trying screen-printing, playing with watercolors, clay sculpting, improv, and on and on.

Take a look at our edit of some of these and as you scroll through this list ask yourself what’s the creative practice that has the potential to make your heart leap (and you may even be nervous to try). Go with that one; reserve a spot at a workshop/class, and see where having a creative practice can take you.

We’ve noticed that post-pandemic many of these spaces offer classes online or at-home kits, so even if somewhere isn’t close to where you live, if there’s something you want to make, there are ways for that to happen whenever you are. We’ve made crochet in our pajamas and showed up with a glass of something to create watercolors at our kitchen tables. Online classes also lend themselves to anyone who doesn’t feel quite ready to practice in public something new they are excited to try or a lost art love they are longing to return to.

We just encourage you to experiment and bring curiosity to this space. Let us know how you get on.

Btw our heart breaks a little when one of these spaces close: we try to keep our guide as up-to-date as possible but things change, so always check before you travel. Equally, nothing thrills us more than hearing about a new creative space in the world, so let us know when you discover a new one.
