It might sound slightly counter-intuitive to seek out a Book Club in order to make your world more people-y, but we’ve found that having a parallel activity can help us feel more comfortable being with new people. There are also so many niche Book Clubs, that you’ll not only get to stretch your social muscles but do so with others who share your same interests.
The following list has a range of Book Clubs (and some fun subscriptions) that focus on everything from mysteries to women writers, translated works to non-fiction choices. Most are online (with a handful offering IRL meet-ups). And there are a couple of celebrity-founded one’s in the mix (including the original).
And if you don’t make human friends, you’ll probably make book friends, or even imaginary friends (I mean Heathcliff is real, right?), both of which have kept us company in uncertain times.
So take a look, see which one might spark your curiosity, and try it out.

Check out our interviews with the founders of two of our favourites, Silent Book Club (with meet-ups worldwide) and Shelf Help.
You can also join our own Book Club where we focus on all things well-being. Follow More Good Days on Substack and look out for our Lost Together Book Club posts. Choose one book from our almost monthly favourite well-being, emotions, and mid-life picks, and then join us on Zoom as we figure out how what we read impacts our everyday lives.
Or if you’re not finding what you need, or you want to return to a more traditional (i.e from your own couch) format, you can even start your own. Some of the ones we mentioned offer advice and resources to do this, or you can create the Book Club of your dreams: choose the venue, the focus, the frequency, invite new and old friends, and see where it takes you.
